Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson (1902–1994), the Lubavitcher Rebbe, was the seventh leader of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement and one of the most influential Jewish figures of the 20th century. Born in Nikolaev, Ukraine, he studied engineering at the Sorbonne and the University of Berlin before assuming leadership of Chabad in 1951 after the passing of his father-in-law, the Previous Rebbe.
Under his leadership, Chabad grew from a small Chassidic sect nearly decimated by the Holocaust into a worldwide movement with thousands of emissaries in over 100 countries. His vision was simple and revolutionary: every Jew, regardless of background or observance, deserves love, connection, and access to their own heritage.
The Rebbe's teachings — spanning thousands of hours of recorded discourses and hundreds of published volumes — address every dimension of Jewish life, from the deepest Kabbalistic mysteries to practical guidance for daily living. He also engaged deeply with science, politics, and world affairs, meeting with heads of state and offering counsel that transcended religious boundaries.
This vibrant, colorful portrait captures the Rebbe's legendary energy and presence — the bold colors reflecting the explosion of light his life brought into the world.
